New Zealand: Motels
Motels are New Zealand’s most popular form of accommodation. There is a wide selection of excellent motels throughout the country that cater for a range of budgets.
Most motels offer private cooking facilities, fridge, TV, telephone, ensuite bathroom and a separate lounge and bedroom. Smaller studio units have an open plan lounge and bedroom area. Some motels offer larger family units, which have two or more bedrooms. Larger motels have extra facilities such as a laundry, swimming pool, children’s playground, and restaurant.
The average price for a studio unit is typically around NZ$120 to $140 per night, larger family units are typically around NZ$160 per night. Naturally, expect to pay more for the higher quality motels and those in larger towns and cities.
Bookings are recommended, especially during the peak season (December to February) and in resort locations that have limited accommodation.
