New Zealand’s uncrowded and well maintained roads are excellent for those who
wish to tour the country on a motorcycle. There are several retailers in the
main centres that offer a range of motorcycles for hire. Hirers must hold a
valid motorcycle licence. Prices start at around NZ$60 per day in the low
season and include insurance, free kilometres, airport transfers and breakdown
service. Wearing of helmets is compulsory. There are also operators who
specialise in motorcycle tours, either as a pillion or self ride. These range
from city sightseeing tours to multi day tours including meals and
accommodation.
